Living Hinges/Bed End Caps / aluminum extrusion
« on: August 19, 2020, 09:41:52 AM »
Does anybody know if it is still possible to buy replacement extrusion for the top of the bed end walls?
I know that someone used to sell aluminum replacement, I think it was medicmike, if so is it still available?
Asking for another owner who has an Apache with the horrible piano hinge mod.

My 69 has a the original rubber mat with the Apache logo on it.
Some people have taken their old torn mat and cut the logo out and inserted it into a new rubber mat.
I like the outdoor carpet idea too though, maybe use edge binding to make it look trick.

Hi folks! I still look in occasionally.
Sold my 74 Mesa, now working on my 75 Mesa, I like the better side wall hinging and bigger windows.
Also still have a 69 Eagle and a 66 Chief. My 65 Silver Eagle is still a work in progress.
Also a non Apache tent trailer, a 1985 Combi-camp, neat little trailer, sets up in a minute.
Too many trailers, so little time...sigh

That's really cool. I'd go for it but I'm in Utah.

They are nice, I always liked the layout, aluminum roof and no complicated lift system, funny they only made them a few years.
They had the rubber torsion axles though, I had a 10 ft Boler with that axle design and did not like the way it towed.
The Buffalo Mesa is a lot lighter than the fibreglass Boler and less top heavy so maybe no problem.
Anybody have problems with the torsion axles? If I go get it I would have to tow it 10 hours all highway.

There is a 66 Buffalo Mesa for sale, needs rescuing, owner has tried to get it a good home for 8 months now.
All original, old canvas is there for patterning, no papers.
Problem for me is its in Upper New York State, 10 hours each way for me.
Would you drive 10 hours to rescue one?
Did it before, not sure if I am up for it this time, anyone out there closer want to buy it, I will send the details.
Too good to let it become a utility trailer.
Owner is only asking $300 USD

There is tubing that connects the front gearbox to the rear, if it is original it will have a spring loaded coupler, take a look under and see if it has become disconnected.
Reach under and try turning it by hand to see where the disconnect is, could be a simple roll pin failure.
Sometimes previous owners fab up bolts to replace a worn or damaged coupler and they loosen and fall out.

Hi Red! I am still hovering about :)
Restoring a 75 Mesa and I might even get around to finishing that 65 Eagle one of these days.
On a side note did you see the 66 Golden Buffalo for sale? upper New York State, Nice restorable condition.
Needs saving, $200
Too far for me sadly.

Hi Richard, congrats on finding that chief.
On my 66 Chief I use an RV mat, you can buy them at wallmart, made out of recycled plastic.
They roll up compact and I run it under the vinyl bucket and out under the awning, can be washed with a hose.

If you're totally missing one you're better off finding parts from one being parted out. If you have one that is just busted up it depends.  Just cracked or huge hole?  Can you get mek where you live? You can get abs all over but some places have pulled mek off the shelf because if you aren't careful it can do a number on you, liver and/or kidney I remember. The fumes can be nasty too. I do all my mek work outside in the driveway so there's a breeze.

Its amazing the repairs people have done to repair panels, great results, check out youtube, there is an apache vid on there repairing a bezel.
MEK is available at Ferris chemicals in St Jon, NB.
That is where I buy mine.

I live in NB Canada too, near Perth-Andover.
Where are you located?
