Living Hinges/Bed End Caps / aluminum extrusion
« on: August 19, 2020, 09:41:52 AM »
Does anybody know if it is still possible to buy replacement extrusion for the top of the bed end walls?
I know that someone used to sell aluminum replacement, I think it was medicmike, if so is it still available?
Asking for another owner who has an Apache with the horrible piano hinge mod.

Canvas Trailers / 66 Buffalo Mesa 10 Hour drive
« on: July 12, 2019, 02:51:01 PM »
There is a 66 Buffalo Mesa for sale, needs rescuing, owner has tried to get it a good home for 8 months now.
All original, old canvas is there for patterning, no papers.
Problem for me is its in Upper New York State, 10 hours each way for me.
Would you drive 10 hours to rescue one?
Did it before, not sure if I am up for it this time, anyone out there closer want to buy it, I will send the details.
Too good to let it become a utility trailer.
Owner is only asking $300 USD

I have removed the 3 roof bows (cross pieces) on my 75 Mesa.
I intend to bend them to cure the water pooling on roof problem.
I read where Medic mike had done this with great results.
My question is to anyone who has done this is how many bends do I use per bow?
I was going to put one bend in the centre but read where Mike used two.
I am now thinking of trying 3 to give the desired curve, any thoughts?

Canvas Trailers / Road cover hanger dimensions
« on: February 22, 2016, 03:16:22 PM »
Tomahawk1 one asked for dimensions for the Eagle soft side road cover hangers.
I made a drawing, hope this works.
Have not made any but should be fairly easy.
I think the easiest way would be to bend the wire to the shape in the bottom view and then clamp in a vice and make the 2 bends up to get the side profile.

Apache Talk / 66 Chief first Camping Trip

66 Chief my first outing  8)
4th of July weekend we have our annual off road bike ride at Houlton Maine.
This year I took the Chief.
Was my first outing with this model, last couple of years I used my Eagle and previous to that I used my 74 Mesa.
First thing that impressed me was the amount of gear this thing holds and its easy to load and access the gear, a locker each side, one outside and one inside when set up.
At the site I unhooked the trailer and was just about to set up when I noticed an ants nest, I just wheeled the camper over to another spot by hand.
Set up was quick and easy.
I slept in it for both nights and had a great sleep, screens allow lots of cross breeze.
Its now my favorite camper  :)
Took a few photos, wish I had taken more.
Everyone that visited to look at it could not believe it was 49 years old  8)

Awesome weekend and an awesome little trailer.

Windows, Doors, & Curtains / Key for a 1975 spare Tire cover
« on: October 14, 2014, 12:24:54 PM »
Is it true that any 1975 key will fit any 1975 model?
The previous owner mislaid the key for the tire cover.

Apache Talk / picked up a 1975 Mesa
« on: September 14, 2014, 06:20:12 PM »
Tried to find someone else willing to save this one but no takers so I made the 2 hour trip to Fredericton.
This one had been on Kijij for some time, owner said he had tried to raise it last year but said sides had cracked so he lowered it back down and had it for sale as fix or utility trailer.
I greased the bearings and added new tires to the old rims and hit the road, it hauled really well and was no trouble for my 2011 4-cylinder Ranger, had to drop to 4th gear on the long hills on the Trans Canada Highway, but hit 120 Kilometers per hour most of the highway, very easy to haul.
I only popped the road cover up a few inches to get the door open and look inside, didn't fully raise it until today.
As it turns out it wasn't the side panels cracked but the original bed end plastic living hinge has broken on both bed ends.
The upholstery was in great shape except for one cushion, a squirrel had made a nest in it, tunneled right though it!
Also the squirrel has chewed the electrical cable.
Mice or the squirrel chomped a few of the original curtains.
All in all it looks well worth what I paid for, the 75 has some improvements over my previous 74 model, metal hinge on side walls and above bed end walls plus bigger  side windows.
Needs new living hinge for bed end lower wall and sides.
Need new tail lights drove it home with temporary magnetic lights on the rear bumper.
Needs new Perspex windows and screens
Has a few cracks and holes in the road cover and window corner cracks.
Have more pics in my Gallery

I found a 75 Mesa on Kijiji for sale.
Talked to the owner by phone, it's 2 hours from me.
He say it is original inside and out, he thinks it has a Fridge.
Door side wall is cracked.
He sent me pics of it with Road cover down, looks nice and savable
He is asking $450 Canadian but will accept $400.
Only offers so far are people wanting a Utility trailer.
Anyone interested in buying it and restoring it?
I would but I have 3 Apache canvas trailers already

Canvas Trailers / Apache Chief Manual 66 and later
« on: August 21, 2014, 09:31:01 AM »
The only manual I have seen online so far is titled a 65, looks more like a 63 or 64.
The 66 and later Chief did not have telescoping ridge bow and the tent poles are outside the canvas.
Does anyone have or know of a later manual for these models?

Canvas Trailers / Apache Chief with bed end window added
« on: August 10, 2014, 10:52:16 AM »
just wondering if anybody ever modified a chief canvas by adding a bed end window and/or window to the opposite wall?
I have the 66 Chief canvas on the way to Paul for repairs and might consider adding an extra window.
