OK, I’m over being intimidated by my ’78 Mesa and have decided to start to work on it. First thing is to drop the gear boxes, which are working fine, and grease them I read what kind of grease to get, Lithium, and I already soaked the nuts in WD 40, any other suggestions?

Don't worry about the grease. Lithium grease is used in the gun systems of fighter jets. They turn at a high rate of speed and get pretty hot. It is good stuff.

I felt the same way the first time I had to drop my gearboxes and take them apart for maintenance, but it ended up being pretty easy. It's the fear of the unknown that gets you.
I haven't had to do my chains yet so when that comes then along will come the anxiousness. LOL
